Media Justice is a movement that works towards creating a fairer and more just media system that serves the people, particularly communities that have been under-represented and misrepresented in the mainstream media system and throughout history. Media ownership, bias, censorship, lack of access to resources and oppression are all concerns of the media justice movement. The dominant media system is increasingly being placed in the hands of a few powerful corporations. This consolidation has advanced an already biased media system that stereotypes, represses and silences certain communities. This guide looks at examples of media justice, a digital story, an independent video and a speech on media justice, for a glimpse into what is being made and done to give voice to people outside of mainstream media.
