How to use media literacy kits

While our media literacy kits can be used for individual study, they’ve been designed to be used in classrooms, community groups, and other group settings to:

  • Teach basic media literacy concepts to people of any age
  • Learn how to “deconstruct” media messages
  • Understand our changing media system and current media issues
  • Access ideas and resources for making your own media
  • Discover ways to improve our media environment
  • To use media literacy kits in a class, presentation or group discussion:

    1. Print the discussion and activity guide (a PDF file) in the kit.
    2. Display the media examples to your group or class.
    > What equipment do I need?
    > What software do I need?

    3. Use the questions and answers in the discussion guide to lead a discussion about the media examples and the topic of the kit.

You can also incorporate the media examples and discussion questions into your own presentation, document or website. Some copyright restrictions may apply. > Read this.
